About this event
The Middle East celebrates the solstice as a festival. Yalda Night is an ancient Persian winter solstice festival celebrated on the longest and darkest night of the year. Friends and family gather to eat, drink, and read poetry, such as the Divan of Hafez or the Shahnameh. A time to protect each other from the dark and welcome the dawn and return of longer, brighter days. Families spread a ceremonial table laden with red colored fruits that represent good health and protection from the coming summer heat.
