Last weekend's flooding was deadly in parts of Arizona, but the rain left one bright spot. says its reservoirs went from 53% full on Nov. 1 to 70% full by Nov. 6, a gain of 370,000 acre-feet, or 120 billion gallons.

To make room, SRP released up to 403,000 gallons of water per second into the Salt and Verde rivers, a rare fall release. Stephen Flora, an SRP senior hydrologist, said the system saw in a few days "what we get all winter." Releases are back to normal now.

is the downside. Tempe says it stays closed to boating and fishing for now, with E. coli among the concerns, and ASU moved its women's collegiate triathlon championship to a duathlon. Some Salt River bed roads may stay closed, so check ADOT's website before you drive.

The Phoenix Symphony will return Nov. 12 after donors stepped up

If you'd written off the season, think again. The Phoenix Symphony will return to the stage Nov. 12 after local donors pledged enough to lift the suspension of its 2026-27 season. That's less than three weeks after it said it would stop performing.

The Phoenix Symphony's season was suspended, then restored

  1. Oct. 20The symphony announces it is suspending its 2026-27 season.
  2. Nov. 1The symphony plays what was scheduled to be its final concert.
  3. Nov. 2The 66 musicians are laid off without pay.
  4. Nov. 6The symphony announces pledges that lift the suspension.

The 66 musicians were laid off without pay Nov. 2. Concerts are set to run through Dec. 31, and the musicians have committed to help raise money to go further. A new commission, led by Sunbelt Holdings' John Graham and former Goldman Sachs partner Don Opatrny, will rework the finances.

“Now we must build a financial and operating model that allows the Symphony to thrive, not simply survive from one season to the next.”

The Wrap

Local First Arizona's Certified Local Fall Festival is back at Margaret T. Hance Park today, and this year marks the festival's 20th anniversary. It's free, it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the park sits right in the middle of downtown Phoenix. Not a bad excuse to spend a clear 82-degree Saturday outside.
